Study Areas

The agency receives periodic questions regarding our ability and interest to expand our jurisdiction to additional areas of the city. The Boise City Council has the authority to establish new urban renewal districts and to adopt urban renewal plans in accordance with the criteria and procedures in the Idaho Urban Renewal Law. This process involves an evaluation of whether a particular area is eligible for an urban renewal project, and preparation of an urban renewal plan and an economic feasibility study. CCDC has performed these tasks for the three urban renewal districts in place in Boise. Typically this process also involves community meetings with landowners, business people and residents in the study area. An individual may submit a request for an area to be studied, and can submit a proposed urban renewal plan for that area. CCDC evaluates proposals for urban renewal areas, and makes its recommendation to the Boise City Council. The City Council has the final decision on whether an urban renewal district will be established. Once a district is established, CCDC has the responsibility of implementing the approved urban renewal plan
